SEVEN DEADLY BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ERRORS

While Business Intelligence offers significant business opportunities, many companies still do not use it as a strategic advantage. Therefore Gartners leading Business Intelligence analysts emphasize seven major errors BI and stressed Gartner best practices to avoid mistakes.

1 . ‘If you build it they will come’. Data warehouses are often created by the IT organization with little, if so many business connections. As a result, users within an organization is often considered to have little value.

2. Managers need to negotiate the numbers. Too many people are hiding behind the tables as they are skilled at manipulating numbers to meet the organization policy.

3. Problem of data quality … We do not have. Gartner predicton for 2007., more than 50 percent of Data Warehouse projects have limited acceptance or will be complete failure as a result of the lack of attention towards the issues of data quality.

4. ”Our supplier of corporate applications shall submitt the best solution. Too often companies assume that a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution the best and most advantageous cost to the company. We should always compare your vendor solution with the decision of the company that is a leader in this segment.

5. ’Darwin was right. BI projects have evolved. Business Intelligence should evolve, but the project would not – they should start and finish, and not evolved.

6. Can outsource the whole thing. Gartner prediction for 2006. was less than 10 percent of companies in which the outsourcing could be a smart strategy, to be ready or able outsource their BI applications and operations in their entirety. We must avoid the temptation of outsourcing everything and only things that are not core competences.

7. Just give me the dashboard. Companies must have a solid and stable BI infrastructure. Then it is necessary to develop networked approach in which new technologies can communicate with other BI technologies, both inside and outside the company, as well as with other technologies such as business process management and integration applications.
