Being extremely involved in BI world
In other words being in many Business Intelligence areas in everyday work. Or better to say to use systematic approach in very versatile areas.
What does it mean when doing business intelligence job? It means to participate in every meeting that is of concern either of Data Warehouse, standard Business Intelligence, standard Management Information Systems and similar. It means to actively participate and contribute everywhere…
Is this really long term sustainable job? Hardly.
Beside it really thrilling to find so many areas where could be contributed with own work it is also very demanding and exhausting experience.
Business intelligence environment can be very messy environment. Working in such environment is more looking more like acting between hammer and anvil. Managements asks for hard to get data and production systems are very slow in extracting data. Not to mention production systems are two steps behind with current requirements and handle with non transparent processes. Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse work means to be in middle of everything.
In this particular case it means of being too involved means to be concerned for everything. Soon result of evolving too much energy in hectic world will be burnout syndrome. I’m not saying to skip the work and to be lazy, but certain things have to be delegated to others and allowing to be skipped. Trust is a key word. Otherwise it is a walk on a destruction path…
Temporarily good for company but bad for expert. In long term it is also a loss for company.
