Addressed responsible persons will dig into business logics, reporting logic, data content, ETL, procedures, data exchange between production systems  and similar. Finding what causes unusual data behavior means analyzing and investigating from business intelligence reporting data toward production systems on data entrances.  Therefore investigating reporting inconsistencies, so called data forensic is similar to criminal scene investigation where processed data are being thoroughly investigated. Pretty much same to police CSI where crimes are reporting issues and each evidence needs to be analyzed in detail.
