Playing on Safe Business Intelligence Side

Bidding on safe business intelligence solutions

People like to play on safe in uncertain world, so do companies. For companies safe is to use most used and solutions from biggest vendors. Companies also like to play on standard and mega business intelligence projects from profiled, big and established companies like SAP, SAS, Oracle, IBM and etc.  Companies like people do like to play on safe.

What is very interesting is to monitor how ”experts” like to talk about best practices. This are best practices from their point of view definitely but I’m wondering, why so many business intelligence and data warehouse projects fail. Can’t enough best practice development and experience be enough to raise business intelligence projects successful implementation rate? Obviously not. Something is fishy about best practice fairy tales.

“Safe is risky” Seth Godin

I would say that best practice story covers only one part of the story and not complete, this its main weakness of best practices. Companies do still have significant financial resources willing to invest into additional knowledge gaining with goal to convert knowledge into competitive intelligence and advantage. All huge investments are made into something that will probably not work and is not complete, considering business intelligence and data warehouse projects. What an excellent harvest opportunity for consultants to sell fog.
