Just to mentions two extremes from experience with business intelligence users, customer side.

One request toward IT was to allow access to all production system sources in DWH (staging area), DWH models and if possible directly on sources.

Reason is, “we are responsible for revenue assurance and we need access to all named sources.”

“Ok, but what particularly do you need?” 

“We don’t know. We do not our task but we will figure out after we get access and analyze revenue flows in systems.”

?

This was direct answer from IT: “Please call me Haralampy if you’ll get access without knowing what will you work”. 

Best answer, ever.

And the second case not less interesting. During conversation and preparing project kick off business users actually stated following:

We don’t know what is the problem!

We don’t know what we want!

But we know what we’ll get we’ll be super!
