Deployment options

There are several ways how to deploy reports on DWH with delivered data from production systems.

Option A - production system will deliver raw data and DWH will restore report logic.
Option B – production system delivers partly prepared reporting logic and DWH restores rest of it.
Option C - production system completely creates reporting logic within export data stream and DWH serves only to publish data like visual interface.

What is better to use depends from case to case. Here are some thoughts to be considered.

• Be aware about availability of expert resources from each side. If experts are missing then it is better to do reporting logic on opposite side. Still, production system has obligation to deliver at least certain level of expertise in defining reporting logic since information are its property.
• Be aware of capital resources.
• Be aware of long turn costs of all options.
• It’s always good to enlarge own knowledge and not to be too dependable upon vendor, especially if many changes on reports are expected.
• If loyalty system is extremely complex and changes periodically, reporting logic could be very complex. Highly skilled experts are needed to restore reporting logic from production system. Be aware of lack of vendors on market. With each upgrade or systematic change on production can be affected constructed DWH reports.
• Costs for option C are smaller since DWH experts do not have to be equally engaged like production system experts.

Of course, mixture of options during project is also possible if for certain reasons choose option shows to less effective than other.
