Business Intelligence for non IT experts

Looking on business intelligence from IT side can be complicated and frightening if you’re not programmer. On the other hand programmers despite their excellent knowledge of processes (because they have to transform it in IT world) do not know everything from enterprise side and simplify complexity of making decisions upon data they have delivered in Business Intelligence.

IT point of view is only one side of story and as already stated might look frighting and complicated. This is only one part of story. So, if you’reExecution in business intelligence and not a programmer this is the site for you. I’m talking about real problems in simple language, step by step, from simple to complicated and to real problems. What kind of help is to read Gartner articles and reports if it’s not translated into reality?

Once again, are you afraid because of lack of Business Intelligence Knowledge? You have to be worried if you work with business intelligence data. Can anybody else help, consultants? Consultants also belong to other point of view more closer to IT side of view. You need insiders experience and this is the missing puzzle for success.

Business Intelligence Reporting Responsibility

Core problems need to be recognized and understood those who present knowledge and wisdom out of delivered BI reports is first line of responsibility for their quality. Same is with law, if you did not know for certain law it is not excuse for being judged as guilty.

You do not have to deliver SQL code, Javascript, C++, oracle DB, data mining algorithms and you do not such kind of knowledge to work with business intelligence, it is not mandatory. You have to deliver knowledge and answers from business logic side and this can not be achieved by looking only from IT and consultancy side.

Whose head is going to be cut if  BI fails to deliver quality data? The one who prepares reports for management and comments them. And this is not for sure IT. Can you afford to blindly trust to IT and consultants without understanding consequences? Trust can be very expensive for your job position.

IT nor consultants will not be responsible for delivered false information. If you are in controlling, strategy, office or similar department YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE. When problem is escalated IT will always say problem was not specified  at beginning. What IT is trying to say problem was not translated and written in IT language! Consultants will also say problem was not specified!

Well, problem has to be first recognized. You have to arm yourself with knowledge and experience of Non IT BI Knowledge (NITBIK) or Enterprise BI Knowledge where most Business Intelligence problems are. NITBIK problems might be deep structural and organizational reporting business problems.

It’s all Greek to me in business intelligence theritory. Don’t Cook your own goose without Non-IT Business Intelligence Knowledge.

Are you going to listen to experts who never delivered materials for the board or supervision in huge companies? Have they ever delivered plans, reports, budget, business cases, comments. Were they ever on conference or video calls with board members to explain to defend presented materials and to explain what is wrong with figures? Well, in those situations you’ll see how business intelligence explanations from consultants and IT are not enough and how different kind of business intelligence knowledge is very important.
