BAD ROMANCE
performed by IT not by Lady GaGa
Well, you never know when will good solutions be spoiled.
Here is the example.
- After DWH project was successfully finished,
- after DWH worked fine and justified investment,
- after users get used to it,
- after survival of negative critics
- after…
Somebody in IT still found reasonable to do following actions:
- to directly connect to legacy systems,
- export data,
- prepare data,
- publish OLAP cube,
- deliver OLAP report to users,
but not through DWH. Not through staging DWH area and data mart.
Perhaps reasons could be that:
- legacy system is not completely in DWH and
- certain data feed parts are missing,
- no time or lack of resources
- legacy system is scheduled for soon termination
- ease to do shortcut
- and etc.
Still, this actions mean direct spoiling of Data warehouse logic and benefits. Spoiling reasons why it was introduced at first place.
It is a bad romance.
