Controlling Management Function

Controlling is one of five basic Management function: leadership, organizing, staffing, planning and controlling. There is also decision making function but it is also understood within management function and is not separated as other functions. Read more in Scope of Management Functions articles.

I’m talking here about controlling and management functions on site that is talking about business intelligence. Somebody might ask, were is here connectivity of terms that are so much different. Where is the connectivity between business intelligence, controlling and management, data warehouse, management functions, controlling department, knowledge management and information systems?

Here it comes…

Business Intelligence as separated set of solutions provides information and can create knowledge. Business Intelligence as standalone platform can not replace experts and provide shaped information and knowledge for strategic decisions. Management can use data from data warehouse and business intelligence tools but would not understand much from it. Controlling as standalone unit has one of the task to provide feedback data from company and one of the best place for proper feedback is definitely business intelligence. Controlling has to analyse, to interpret and to shape data for management needs. This is the connectivity and answer why is controlling important to be mentioned together with business intelligence. With understanding of controlling process, decision making processes and how knowledge for decisions is generated and management it is much easier to understand purpose of business intelligence and where to go with development. Whole picture of participants and solutions must be in mind.

Information flow for Controlling in Management Functions

I’ve just released several articles regarding controlling in management functions because controlling is very closely related to business intelligence and management. Basicaly, controlling is one of the greatest consumer of data from data warehouse and business intelligence beside marketing. Controlling can not be neglected in interpratation of information and in company knowledge management processes. Furthermore, controlling functions of management are basic interpreters of company information flow.
