Transparency makes enemies
Who would like to see transparent work? Rare operative management and all the top management.
Why not all management?
Transparent work could show what was made wrong in the past. Somebody might ask whose responsibility was that. This is horror question that many alike. Not only alike but hate. It is easy to make enemies with technology that provides deep insights into someone’s “territory”. Off course, after implementation of technology that provides transparency through business units and departments somebody could ask why was lost so much in complex contract and who should be blamed for this? Who would like advanced and sophisticated revision with new technology of its own work after working very hard work with limited human and technology resources?
Operative management is deeply inside in detailed analysis with many different dimensions. Calculations are more complex with many dimensions. If all dimensions are not transparent, hidden dimensions influence on final calculation is not known and unrecognized.
New technology means new set of data available for analysis, new dimension usually. If technology was not available at time of analyzed event and did not provide insights that are currently available, that might be the problem if somebody likes to ask why this data was not seen with old technology. Reasons why could somebody ask is lack of knowledge how information flows influence results or simply being wicked.
Catch is, without technology it is very easy to make mistakes in calculations and to make “mistakes” in millions. If company does not have proper decision making solutions aka decision support systems mistakes in decisions are not possible to avoid.
Mistakes are actually not real mistakes unless made with inattention, poor work or deliberately. Mistakes in calculation or business analysis are reflecting lack of adequate technology and limited calculation resources.
Do you use in strategic and tactical decision making process transparency technology? Do you use advanced analitics for transparency in integrating financial and non-financial business intelligence results?
