Trans Siberian Railway
It is always tempting to implement quick win solution especially for master data management solutions. This means to implement whatever technical solutions can be to save time and money. Later it means to transfer content to other more advanced master data management solutions. There is also dark side of quick implementations and they are very similar to Trans Siberian railway project. Railway was planned to be made quickly without solid basis of stones for rails (rails were placed on soil), with poor iron rails that could not survive extremely low temperatures and similar. Speed has its price but also long implementation has its own price.

Once implemented solution is not easy transferable to others. Many times it is better to start from scratch again.
On the other hand long implementation costs a lot from aspect of manual work, costly and ineffective processes. This are significant cost.
Which way to chose depends on specific problem and resource of experts…
