Private Comfort Zone

Each of us has private safety zone build upon routines, information, reports, interfaces… and we do not change them because change is frustrating. Just remember portion of antagonism when we get new software… we need time to get used to it and to get fruitful benefits.

In corporate world I’ve seen so many cases of private comfort zone on users side. They do not want to switch to new systems for example. But, I’ve also seen so many cases where IT experts also resist to change Information Systems. How to call untouchable Information systems?

Comfort Information Sets?

Sales wants new structures, but does not want to give up from old detailed dimensions, which are buy the way outdated… but for them they are comfort information set.

Information systems can support one or other set of dimensions. Hardly IT systems can support both at the same time.

Because of many private comfort zones – comfort information sets, information systems can suffer from serious data overload. Information systems are not the only ones that painfully deliver requested information, organization can suffer from serious information maintenance – data steward overload effect.

Recognize private comfort zone, and cut it. You can’t have everything.
