Knowledge Integration vs. Information Integration
Knowledge integration is not the same as information integration. Information are integrated with code mappings in Masterdata Management systems. This is what is what most of vendors offer, and thisĀ the golden egg for consultants. Market recognized it and offers many solutions. This is demanding, long lasting and costly way. This is the right approach.
But, it is not the only approach.
Knowledge integration means to connect information that are not possible to connect through information systems, at least not without huge efforts. Knowledge integration means to connect information sets with new relations, something that is not connectable with information intelligence but is possible with combination of experience, market knowledge, internal information flow and etc. When you simply just know that information are connectable…
- You know behavior of market segment and targeted products.
- You know why is customer churn happening and how is it related customer support.
- You know financial potential of newly discovered market niche.
You simply know this facts and they are results of detailed business and competitive analysis. This information are stored usually in presentations, table calculators and etc., because this is not structured data. Information systems have poor support for non structured knowledge.
This knowledge is not stored in information system but it is result of information systems feeds.
This is the knowledge of business analysts. And it is not part of knowledge management system, at least not in productive and contribution way – for exploitation in scenarios/projections by decision makers.
