Data Steward Mistakes
Here are several common mistakes made by data stewards and that might endanger data flows.
- Be careful about dates. Dates have to fit tightly to closing dates otherwise calculation of revenues or costs might break down. They cannot reference to historical or future dates, they have to match exactly to closing dates in month of data enter.
- Copying from Excel can be quite tricky, because hidden formats or blanks might be included in copied data. Those copied formats can also break apart scheduled calculations based upon your data maintenance because application will not see it same ID as you see it visually. It is the ID of product not defined in database.
- Pay special attention to accuracy of decimal numbers. It should be at least 5 to 6 figures if percentage values are entered in Master Data Management lists because aggregations of data sets might not be 100%.
