Appreciating Own Business Intelligence Resources
Many companies do not appreciate own business intelligence and data warehouse knowledge resources: experts, know how, internal knowledge, internal work. It somehow much easier to hire vendor to do job instead to engage own teams. For example, when own Business Intelligence experts start to deploy new cubes then it is a common behavior of business customers to send modifications of initial requests and to raise urgency and importance of reports.
Own Business Intelligence teams usually do not have long period of piece to work on deployment but are bombarded from internal customers. It is somehow understandable that they need to deploy everything immediately and perfectly. Value of this work is equal to piece of cake – it is not so valuable because it’s done internaly. When vendor is hired for same work then it is more than understandable to work for months, with double or triple team and 10 times higher budget. Vendor’s business intelligence solutions are valuable… Do you see the discrepancy in corporate psychology?
Not to mention other examples where consultants make conversation with internal stuff, combine all their proposals into package that is not implementable and sell it to management for solid price? Corporations have under estimation problem for own values and communication problem to capture innovations and ideas. Less headache with employees, smaller OPEX, higher CAPEX… better depreciation and cash flow
No wonder we have global crisis with no end…
