Reasons why business intelligence project fail
There can be many reasons why business intelligence project fail.
Let’s start with political causes:
Board members compete with different projects and if business intelligence project is lead by “weaker” board member it will not have bright future, it is internal “competitor” project. In many cases it will be declared as failure and terminated despite the fact it worked quite OK.
Second reason is if projects suddenly stays without sponsor, as orphan does not have a lot of chance against negative internal marketing and does not have support for strategic decisions.
Starting project without dedicated team of experts or staying without them during the project for numerous reasons like lack of communication, lack of satisfaction, reorganization and similar.
Project timing cause:
Never start and implement huge project like business intelligence project and huge projects on company information systems to be more precise core source systems like ERP or CRM. Parallel work will cause loosing of basis for BI projects that needs stable environment for implementation. Can not fight on several fronts at the same time.
Wrong expectations cause:
Lack of knowledge and too big expectations: “BI project will solve all problems like crystal ball”. Garbage from source systems and from process on source system levels will permanently harm quality of reports. During time unrealistic expectations will feed negative internal marketing and then it’s only question of time for declaration of BI project failure.
